Tunes of a drifter…
The weekend was good. I ended up meeting with my huges Saturday. They sent a massive email to everyone, and I expected more people to show up at his house… actually, I was the only one who managed to get there… the spirit of our group is just outstanding isn’t it? I’m not going to see my huges until frosh week… they’re building a 15’ robot that transforms into a truck… yes yes, we’ll crush you all!!!
Then met up with Maria for an engsoc play, pretty funny for 5 $. Afterwards we met Jill for bubble tea. Nothing goes with bubble tea better than trivial pursuit, makes for conversation and time well spent. I had a little problem though, I didn’t have a place to crash for the night, which was cool… Harry Potter was going to take me anther few hours to finish, and I need to adjust my sleeping pattern for the midnight shifts coming up. After going to the bomber for a bit (we met up with Mark the enviro. It’s always great to see him, what a cool guy) which reminds, me… mark was supposed to live with us next term, but we couldn’t find him in time to ask him BAH!! Our new peace keeper: Richard will do just fine though :D
So my Saturday night was spent at the quiet room in the SLC. They say it’s quiet, but it’s actually where the night owls go to be very very obnoxious when the room’s kind of empty. With my partially alcohol induced state and the annoying Indian knock-off rap videos some guys were playing on the comp… I didn’t get down to reading ‘til hours later. Anyway, I finished the book… not giving any details, but I have never gotten so worked work up over a book… just an emotional mess towards the last parts.
Next day was just quiet solitude... I was at the lab again. I looked up a band called Broken Social Scene, they’re kinda indie rock/space music/ambient from TO, really good stuff for looking into nothing while unconsciously bobbing your head. Also discovered the … MOST awesome guitar playing band. I’d never thought anyone can out do Gary Rossington in Freebird… anyway, Yngwie Malmsteen’s the name and check ‘m out, anything’s great. I’ve only heard a few of their tracks, Flamenco Diablo, and the instrumental version of Rising Force… simply WOW.
I was rushing to catch a bus that I missed by 30 seconds… the next bus didn’t arrive for another 30-40 minutes… I got to the terminal exactly on time, but the Greyhound had left already. I missed it by 1 minute!! So I walked over to the train station instead… the train just left… 2 minutes ago… I just can’t catch a break eh? Did I mention it was raining the whole time? And some truck sped over a puddle and I got soaked on one side. I felt like such a drifter! esp. after a night with no comfy bed. I walked some way back to toward the bus station… listening to a blues rendition of Bring it on Home to Me… and singing it too… and I mean belting on the street!! I didn’t care anymore, realized then, just much music helps in my life, if I wasn’t listening to some great music at the time, the unfortunate events woulda gotten the best of me… but shit happens, it’s cool, and kinda funny. The next bus/train wasn’t for another 5.5 hours… I set out to Conestoga and got a shirt that said something like “Who can resist an asian girl?” hahaha, excellent question. Back at work now, then off for a long weekend… counting down the days *~
